Thirteen years ago, in snowy Rochester, two Florida natives found themselves at the same Thursday night college party. While most people were mingling, Charlie and his friends were playing cards. Carmela, always eager to play games naturally, wanted in.
There was just one problem: the game had approximately a thousand rules. Charlie patiently explained them, and before long, a card game turned into hours of conversation, friendly competition, and the beginning of something neither of us saw coming.
Between beer pong rematches, Mario Kart nights, hockey games, and adventures around campus, we quickly became each other’s favorite teammate. Charlie even introduced Carmela “100%” to her first taco (which she promptly ate from the middle because, obviously, that’s where the good stuff was).
